| Landing : | Beach. Caution - Extreme tidal range |
| Going there : | Vehicle / Transportation Requirements: Any Vehicle. Access to launch for HG is possible with permission of Park staff. |
| Comments : | This site is owned and maintained by the Cape Chignecto Provincial Park. Our arrangement with them is that ALL pilots will have hpac yearly or temporary(non Canadian visitors)Insurance. If you fly you are expected to pay the $5 admission fee. |
| Weather hazards : | NB. The Bay of Fundy exhibits a phenomenal tidal range. At certain phases of the moon the high tide can reach the base of the cliffs. Low tide is equally exaggerated. Southerly winds, necessary to fly the long (10km)high cliffs beyond the arc of the bay are short lived in the summer making that section of the ridge difficult to fly. The intertidal zone on this side is also very narrow. It is recommended that only pilots very experienced in coastal flying attempt this ridge. |

Turn left (West) on Big Hill Road and travel at or below the posted speed limits a distance of 1.64km (1.02 miles) to Muller Wind Sports. There is a windsock at the entrance which you can't miss on your left. |
| Comments : | Nice casual hill to fly at. Very close to Calgary. Vincene (Land owner) runs Muller Wind Sports and Keith MacCullough is the head instructor. There is a wind talker you can call for current weather conditions. See number below. |
| Weather hazards : | High winds can close the site. Wind gusts come out of nowhere so be very cautious. |
| Flight regulation : | This location is near Springbank airport (CYBW) and its airspace. Notifications (NOTAM)must be given to the airport when any paraglider or hang glider takes to the Skies. The phone number and a script is located at the door of the flight centre. Once a NOTAM is given you must untie the black flag on the power pole in front of the flight centre. If the flag is already untied, there is no need to call in a second NOTAM. Please tie the flag back up after sun down. We are confined to the river on the south, highway 22 to the west, Glen Eagles golf course on the east and one kilometer to the north of launch. There is a ceiling height of (?seaching?) this area as well. This is due to our NOTAM flight restrictions and the proximity of the Springbank & Calgary airports. |

Eagle Site - Jakes Corner
|
|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | A lot of work has gone into clearing the launch. Thanks Karl. An old mining road will take you most of the way to Launch. There are three options. The first is a steep sloping launch, the second and third more gradual. |
| Landing : | The most common LZ is the same location where the mining road starts off the Alaska Highway. |
| Going there : | Head south of Whitehorse past Jake's Corner. |
| Weather hazards : | Watch for converging weather between the two mountain ranges. This can cause big lift in the middle of the valley and making landing at the LZ almost impossible. Fly downwind out of the valley (10+ km) and out of the venturi to get into calmer wind and to get down. |

| Landing : | Top landing at take off spot is preferred. Beach landing below short bluff is also possible and there is a winding path along the beach back up to the top via the back of the ridge; this is generally not preferred due to distance. |

Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | Launch is a 60' wide and extends back 100+'. The front drops off very quickly making a run off difficult. |
| Landing : | The PG bailout LZ here is very small and also it is slightly down hill. It is directly in front of launch. It is no good for hang gliders. The hang gliders must land beyond the road and then in the field bordered in green. The main lz is bordered in green and it can be made quite easily by the modern paraglider in a straight glide from the hill at launch level. If you are below launch you may have to land in the bail out zone. Please take note if the lz is in crop do not land there. There are probably alternatives. Dangers Power lines. Special Notice. The landowner of the section in red is not friendly to the sport. Please don't land there except under extreme emergency. |

Fly Hills north
|
|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | Small newly cleared fall 2012 About 4300 feet ASL Around the 14km marker on the Fly Hills logging road west of town. Turn west off highway #1 onto Salmon river road. (look for skidoo rec signs)Travel about 3km turn right onto Christionson rd. staying left continue on up to the Fly Hills logging road. Km signs start at cattle gaurd at the end of pavement. At 1km is the skidoo parking lot. Luke's launch is a short 200-300 yard walk due east from the SE corner of the parking lot. Continue on up to 7.5km to another parking lot. Again take the SE trail to the carpeted Fly Hills north launch. Have a look around then head on up to the Fly Hills south launch at 14km staying left at the fork at 12.5. Park at the radio tower and find the quad trail over the bank and across the road (due south.) |
| Landing : | 6820 30th ave S.W. (on the left About 1100 feet ASL (322m) Lat 50, 40' 38.7' N Long 119, 21' 50.5' W On Salmon River road continue on past Christionson rd about 2km to 30th ave on the right just before the first river crossing. 6820 is 1km down 30th on the left. Log house green tin roof. LZ is the field south of the house. There's a ratty looking windsock in the NE corner. |
| Going there : | |
| Comments : | If on Luke's launch look NE for a huge bolder the size of a small cabin. From here you can see launch if looking due east. The hayshed roof between the trees and the road and closest to the hill is the marker LZ being south of the shed. Try soaring the small ridge at Luke's launch. From FlyHills north launch thermals out front are good but try following the road to the two small aspen groves to the south ( between 5 and 6km). It's always on there. On any given flying day valley winds are almost always heading up the valley so aproach LZ from south or southwest is usual. |
| Weather hazards : | If upper winds are from the west/northwest watch for roter over trees on Fly Hills South launch. Watch your ribbons. |

Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | Turn west off highway #1 onto Salmon River road. Follow (snowmobile signs)Go about 3km and turn right on Christionson rd keep left at fork and follow up to skidoo parking lot which is at 1km. Luke's launch is about 150 yard walk due East from the SE corner of the parking lot. From the skidoo parking lot continue on up the loging road to 7.5 km. where you'll find another parking lot to the left. Hike the half km to the Fly Hills North carpeted launch. Higher yet is Fly Hills South launch at about 14km. Keeping left at 12.25km. Park at radio tower and find quad trail off the road due south. |
| Landing : | The field at 6820 30th ave S.W. Follow Salmon River rd on down to 30th ave on the right, just before the first river crossing. Follow 30th for 1km to where the road bends. 6820 is here on the left. Lz field is south of the house. |
| Going there : | Is a snap!! |
| Comments : | If west winds blow out the south launch the north is usually flyable. If here try flying the road, your sure to find thermal at the two little aspen groves to the south. If your up for a flight give me a call If north or east winds try ridge souring Luke's launch. Landing field can be seen from Luke's launch. Look north east for a big bolder the size of a cabin. From there look directly east to the hayshed roof directly below you. It's the closest building to the hill below you. A tattered windsock is in the northeast corner of the LZ. Happy flights |

Fox River
|
|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | This sw facing site has a manufactured earthen slope cut into the profile of the ridge to allow a clean flow of air for inflation and launch. It is good for both HG and PG. The set up area is behind the top of the launch slope. |
| Landing : | beach or top land at TO only! The beach at most tide times is unobstructed. Access back to launch is achieved by either climbing the bank to the east of launch using the rope provided or by walking to the road two hundred m. to the east. note - do NOT cimb the bank in front of launch. It is highly suseptiblle to erosion. Top Landing is possible and is usually the landing of choice for pg. Keep in mind to land closer to the launch ramp to avoid the rotor found toward the rear of the set up area. DO NOT land in the blueberry field next to the launch. HG beach landing only! |

Grouse
|
|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | Grouse Mtn. ski area. From Highway #1, travel north along Capilano Road/Nancy Greene Way to the end and then take the Gondola to the top. 4000' (1200 m) ASL SSW facing launch with excellent groomed slope on ski hill. Moderately sized set-up area on rocky and bushy ski slope. Get a good clean run as sink could be present just in front of launch. Grouse is a very restricted site. Grouse Mtn. is privately owned, next to one of the main water reservoirs for the city, and the landing field is a sports-field in an upscale area of greater Vancouver. Because of these circumstances, in order to fly Grouse, you first have to get onto the guest pilot list. To be accepted as a guest, you have to have an intermediate or advanced rating, liability insurance, a reserve, and you have to be a responsible pilot (You will be asked for a contact person who can vouch for you). Once approved as a guest, you can fly Grouse, but you must always be accompanied by one of the members of the Grouse Mountain Flying Team. The team member will brief you on the site, sign you in, and see you off at launch, etc. |
| Landing : | Cleveland Park. From Highway #1, travel north along Capilano Road to Prospect Very restricted LZ for HG, hot ships almost impossible to land. 600' (180 m) ASL Soccer field in an upscale area of greater Vancouver. Very tight landing area surrounded by high trees, houses, backstop and busy roadway. Sports may be in progress also. Best approach is: A westerly downwind, then turn behind / in front of the tree off the southwest corner of the LZ. (10 ft max above - HG) head north over houses on west side of road (closer to the field if sink is present). When in line with the filed make a right turn, dive for the edge of the field, ground skim across field, and flair! |
| Comments : | Type of Site: Coastal Mountain Thermal soaring suitable for PG and HG Cross-Country: None allowed, due to controlled airspace just outside of the small CYA You can only fly this site as an approved guest of a Grouse Mtn flying team member. Demo flight may be required at another Mtn site. Grouse Mountain is a year round mountain resort and a very high profile flying site. CYA 133 (H) to 6000' (1800 m) ASL. Haines Junction Paint Mountain
|
|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | The takeoff can be reached either by hiking a rarely used trail with some steep parts or by being dropped by helicopter. There are two launch possibilities. One launch is an overgrown clearing for an old tram line (several concert blocks still remain). The second launch is a natural grass slope on the southwest face. Both launches are difficult and expiatory. The view and area are unique compared to many other Yukon flying sights. |
| Landing : | A large gravel pit is halfway between the top of the mountain and the local airport. The airport is nearby and can be used for landings but should be considered a last resort or emergency, ideally anyone planning to land at the airport should talk to them first. |
| Going there : | Haines Juntion is 150 west of Whitehorse. |
| Comments : | Difficult launch. Long hike. A lot of effort for a flight. |
| Weather hazards : | Strong wind gusts from the nearby Kluane Ice fields. Sometimes unpredictable high winds can occur without notice. |

Stunted hardwoods to either side of launch. Top landing is very condition dependant for PGs , not recommended for HGs. |
| Landing : | LZ for both HG and PG is the developed and grassed field on the north side of the highway (same side as launch) There usually is a windsock at either end of the lz. Alternatively hangliders can land on the other side of the road although the field is quite grown up with bushes |
| Going there : | 4-WD only please |
| Comments : | This site provides thermic flying but only before the sea breeze kicks in. Then it becomes broken. The sea breeze usually arrives by 11am. |

|
|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | Several opportunities for new launches. The ones that have been flow include a short hike up a small hill beside a pullout on the right hand side of the road. The pullout is just before a long stretch where the road sidecuts into a valley ridge. From that launch, you can fly the entire valley, evening glass-off works really well for this site. Other launches are a short hike from the highway. All launches are from a relatively high ASL already, so its not a great thermal location. |
| Landing : | No designated landing, the whole area is tundra with plenty of landing options. |
| Going there : | About 10 km before the US/Canada Border along the Top of the World Highway is where people have have successful flights, but an adventurous pilot is likely to make new sites in the general area. |
| Comments : | Beautiful. There are a few places to fly along this stretch of Highway. Look for them and you will find them. GPS Coordinates are not correct, only an approximation (need help from local pilots). |

| Landing : | Landing is tight. There is a boat launch as well as a couple of clear areas beside the highway. In an emergency, the road could be used, but is not recommended. See the link to the photo for a view of the boat launch landing. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/18014136 |
| Going there : | Follow the Klondike Highway North. Look for the radio tower on the right when you get to Little Fox Lake. The dirt road to get to it is accessed a couple of kilometres North of the tower. Look for the entrance after the right hand bend in the road as you turn away from the lake (near the end). You will see a large Elk Sign where the road entrance is. |

|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | Hike down dirt road to lookout. Hike up to your right were there is a tree just in front of launch. Use the hump beside the tree, not the slope behind it. Your wing is too easily blown back if you launch behind the tree, plus there is some rotor there. |
| Landing : | Safest landing is on frozen Yukon River. There is a lower bench that can be landed on for a shorter hike. Some pilots have top landed (not recommended). Do NOT attempt top landing or lower bench if wind speed picks up due to rotor. |

Mt 7 - Golden
|
|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | Main Launch is the lookout directly SE above Golden and is a combination of ramp and slope launches. Set-up area for 60+ gliders. Upper PG launch (40 minute hike) at 7400' MSL is a smooth steep slope. |
| Landing : | 40 acre field a 4:1 glide ratio from the lookout located next to the town of Nicholson - 8 km S of Golden (Hwy 95). Can be unreachable in PG in a south wind. Alternatives available. Five things to watch for during the approach and on landing: 1) Electric cables run along the road and on the west side of the LZ to the house. 2) The fence extends north of the house. 3) Sinking air near the river. Particularly early in season, when the glacial water is flooding the marshes. 4) The trees are high and produce turbulence as far as half the field length when windy. 5) On a thermally afternoon, the wind becomes very variable in strength and direction in the LZ. Watch the wind-socks closely. Avoid a downwind landing. At a 4:1 glide from the Lookout, the landing zone (LZ) is easily accessible most of the time. As a rule of thumb, when you are at the height of the west butte, you should head toward the landing. However, flying is not always so easy. Paragliders fly much slower than hang gliders, consequently come short of the LZ most often. It happens every year. The lack of penetration in an increasing head wind is the principal reason, bad judgment comes second. However, in moderate (or stronger) south wind, paragliders simply must land elsewhere. Also, after taking off from the lower launch or when scratching low at the kilometer 5 cliffs, the landing of choice becomes the gravel pit. |

Strong thermal site that should only be flown by experienced pilots in mid-day. Trees are tall in the west! Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | There is an access road to a NWTel building with a large field. Follow the ridge trail up and then hear to an small plateau above the building and field. The take-off is a little tricky to the the sharper edge and there is only enough room for a single wing. In a westerly winds, the angle of the cliff provides lots of lift and the view of the highway, Lake Laberge and even a small mounting lake make this a fun site to fly. |
| Landing : | Most common landing is the field directly below launch. There are several optional XC landings in both directions. |
| Going there : | A few kilometres before the road to the Lake Laberge Campground (Shallow Bay Road), you will see a dirt road which leads to a small NWTel building. |

| Landing : | There is a gravel pit below launch. Again, this site is untested and this is only theoretical. |

Swansea
|
|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | Of the 3 launches the NW is the best followed by the West launch. Mt. Swansea Ridge Launch Site is a nice grassy SW launch site. |
| Landing : | The Airport Operator Babin Air permits landing at the Airport (south east end of the airstrip) to Hang Gliders and Paragliders holding the Hagar and Air traffic Radio License. A Aircraft Radio is required to transmit your landing intensions to the Invermere Traffic at 123.20 |
| Going there : | From the crossroads of Invermere and Hwy 93/95 travel south app. 2.7 km to Windermere Loop Road. Turn left and cross Swansea Road. Travel 3.2 km where a left turn will take you over the Westroc Gypsum Mine Haul Road onto the signed Mt. Swansea Forest Service Road. Note that the Westroc Road is closed to public traffic. Give the right of way to industrial traffic. After 5 km the steep Mt. Swansea Road terminates at the parking area and trailhead. The road is graded to accommodate high clearance 2WD vehicles. However, extreme caution must be used, especially in passing oncoming traffic, since the road is very narrow with numerous switchbacks. Drive carefully with headlights on. Trail Description (Mt. Swansea Summit). From the parking area this short steep trail leads to the summit of Mt. Swansea - a hike of 15 to 20 minutes. The one-half (.5) kilometer trail gains 105 m in elevation and leads to exhilarating panoramic views of the Columbia Valley, lying almost 1000m below the summit. Trail Description (Mt. Swansea Ridge) From the parking area you walk about 100m back on the road and then turn left to the Mt. Swansea trail - a hike of 15 minutes. The one-half (.5) kilometer trail gains 90 m in elevation and leads to the top of the ridge. |

Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | There are a couple of options. At the end of the road, you will see a dome-like option for take-off. It is a 15 minute hike and provides easy take-off from many directions. This is a good take-off for beginners as due to the various direction options for take-off and landing. There is a second advanced launch over the southeast ridge. If the wind is not constant, you will be in for a long, long hike back up. It may be possible to paunch from the dome and thermal over to the ridge. |
| Landing : | There are no trees up here which gives many options. I landed beside my car last time I flew here. |
| Going there : | Drive towards Carcross then turn right on the Annie Lake Road. Follow it to the Wheaton River Bridge (GPS Coordinates of LZ). Note the LZ GSP Coordinates are the coordinates for the turn-off. It is possible to drive up the mining road in a 4x4 or ATV or Skidoo. |
| Comments : | The name was given by English miner's in the early 1900's. |
| Weather hazards : | August 15 to September 16 is hunting season and Carcross/Tagish First Nation ask people not to hike there during this period. We saw large snow devils forming along the southeast ridge and stayed clear. |

| Going there : | 2066-2108 Teston Rd Vaughan, ON L6A 3Y9, Canada Just north of intersection of Teston Rd and Rodinea Rd. |
| Comments : | Ownership / accessibility of hill is in question. There is a no trespassing sign on one side of the hill but not the other so it is unclear what is private and restricted land. Teston Rd Vaughn 2nd site
|
|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | This site is a closed and under remediation landfill. It's covered in short weeds. The hill itself is a stepped hill with the peak around 890 feet above sea level that has good exposure to SSE and NNW. There is also a W facing shallow slope that is a good beginners hill. |
| Landing : | Top landing would be fine. The top is large, flat and covered in weeds. NNW there is the lower step, but it's probably better to fly to the east end of the ridge then land in the large meadow there. SSE there is a hard road at the bottom but a dirt field beyond that. The west facing slope is very gentle with a long meadow. |
| Going there : | Keele St and Teston Rd, head east to Rodinea St, then turn right (south). Drive to the end of Rodinea where the street barrier is and park on the side of the street there. Ignore the signs talking about guard dogs, that is for a large construction / yard site off to the west following the paved road. Walk past the concrete barriers and slightly right up the slope. |
| Comments : | The top berm is perhaps 200 meters long, so that is the extent of ridge to soar. There are thermal sinks nearby, so if altitude is gained off of ridge lift, thermalling out is possible, especially on the south side where the sink is close by. Ignore any roads shown around the site past Rodinea in Google Maps or satellite view. They are all closed to traffic except site maintenance people, so you will have to walk in and up. |

| Landing : | Landing Directions: Follow the same directions as going to launch but instead of turning left on Whimster continue 3.6 km (from Mountain park campground) and turn left on to 40th St. Follow 40th St for 0.5 km, there will be a large field on the left , a green house with white trim located far back on the field (owners of the field). There are two driveways side by side be sure to take the first one. Parking has be done either on the shoulder of 40th or in a small pullout in the field just off 40th. Though the owner has expressed there isn't always the need to touch base with them first, it is still recommended especially if there is an active crop in the field. Please respect the field, it would be very unfortunate if we were to loose the privilege to land in such a nice open and clean field. The owners are very HG/PG friendly. |
| Going there : | Launch Directions: Drive out of Creston heading towards Cranbrook on the #3 and turn right 1.6 km past the last gas station (Race Trac Gas) at Mountain Park campground on to Canyon Lister Rd. Follow this road about 1.1km from Mountian Park Campground and turn left onto Whimster Rd. Drive until it takes a sharp right and continue straight on to the gravel road. At 1.6 Km (from turning onto Whimster Rd) there is a fork in the road, go straight. Follow the main road from there to the top: a 10 km and 40 minute drive. Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | Hike 2 minutes back down the road from the radio tower to find the trailhead. There is a cutline to the launch which will take 45-60 minutes hiking in summer and over an hour in spring with snow shoes. It's a beautiful view. I do not have the exact GPS Coordinates. The ones shown here were approximated from Google Earth. |
| Landing : | There are many field to land in as well as XC potential. Please check with local pilots before flying here. Most famers are friendly, but we want to keep it that way. Cory lives in a cabin at the main landing and will often have a windsock at the LZ which happens to be in front of his hours. |

West Bay
|
|
Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | HG & PG - Groomed launch and set up area. Launch is 60' asl and is the saddle at the west end of the bay between much higher cliffs. The resultant venturi exaggerates typical wind strength. The bowel shape does not allow for accurate wind direction indication. (See endnote) The land owner appreciates politeness. |
| Landing : | Beach. Caution - Extreme tidal range. (See endnote) |
| Comments : | It is extremely important that a pilot unfamiliar with this site a) check with the local club and b) ascertain true wind direction before launching. You will pass Partridge Island beach before you get to launch and a more accurate assessment of wind direction can be obtained there. |
| Weather hazards : | Important Note: If the wind direction shifts into the south there is a danger of leeside rotor at launch, behind Cape Sharp and that can happen here very quickly. The Bay of Fundy exhibits a phenomenal tidal range. At certain phases of the moon the high tide can reach the base of the cliffs. Low tide is equally exaggerated.. SE winds have a nasty habit of being short lived before they shift into the SW. |

| Take off : | Launch is a groomed gradually steeper slope facing WSW at 2250' (680 m) ASL. Set up area for 10+ gliders. Large parking area. Clean takeoff. Wire men required in strong thermal conditions. In poor conditions there is a good HG ramp lower down the slope. Leave for the LZ when no more than 50' below the old lower launch. Use small field ( |
| Landing : | The 'Riverside LZ' is located 10 minutes hiking time south of the Lougheed Highway junction with the FSR. There is a trail out of the field through a neighbors property starting near the NW corner of the field leading to the Cafe. If you open a gate close it behind you. |
| Comments : | Cross-country flights to Hope on both types of wings. An easy and pleasant XC Flight is to Harrison Hot Springs: a good place to soak your bones after a day of flying. CYA 132 (H) to 6000' (1800 m) ASL (Maximum). Watch for small aircraft over Riverside LZ. One of the WCSC's most high profile and valued sites. Can get crowded in spring and early summer. Only land in the designated landing fields. Do NOT land in any other fields. Long glide to HG landing field in any headwind. The WCSC has an XC meet running two to three weekends here every year starting Mid- April. Great way to start the year. The site has very nice coastal influenced air combined with pleasant thermals which are generally well away from the hill. The scenery is outstanding. Flying seasons : |
| Take off : | South ramp is excellent for HGers, but aging and a little rickety. Difficult rock face for NW launch. Setup area for about 10 gliders. The PGer launch is on a bluff above the HG launch and is usually very easy to launch from. Contacting KootenayParagliding.com the evening before flying is imperative |
| Landing : | The main HG / PG landing field is difficult to approach and the air is often rough, prone to quite a bit of turbulence. Good approach skills are needed. The old LZ is now closed as the Forest Service has replanted it. Land at the Ymir Whirl disc golf course just above it (Nth) Expert skills needed particularly for HGers. PG may land downtown Ymir (at the campground or beside the river) in zero wind conditions ONLY. Downtown is a turbulaent, rotory mess if there is any wind in the valley. The flag on the Fire Department roof downtown will show false direction with wind speeds above 3kph. HG landing zone is on the bench above a large replanted mill site on north side of town on the Porto-Rico-Ymir Rd. PG Landing field is downtown across from Ymir Store and Hotel - this favorite drop in spot has liquid refreshments right across the road. - This (PG) LZ is a really tight field, surrounded by power lines, trees and a river. |
| Going there : | Ymir is on the road from Salmo to Nelson. East of the Ymir Pub, turn left (Nth) just past the village campground. Immediately across the bridge turn right on Oscar Bear Rd. At 2.7 Km turn left. The road in is another 2 km. Half way in take the right fork. From there on it is serious, dangerous 4WD. This is not a joke. It is best to go up with a local the first time to learn the danger spots. The PGer launch is on a tarp above the HG launch and is usually very easy to launch from. The HG ramp is incredibly easy to launch from even in a moderate cross wind. |
| Comments : | Class 'E' Airspace above 700' AGL following land contour. Best gains in one thermal: 9000'. This is the most consistent site in the area. Predictably soarable site and 7,000 altitude gains off launch are common. The area is surrounded by old gold mines which can be seen from the air. Every season there are a number of XCs to Salmo and beyond (S-SE), and to Nelson (N) though the Nelson route is extremely committed with out-landings in logging cuts only, and walk outs of many hours on locked logging roads. |
