Are (or Åre in Swedish) is mainly the biggest ski area in Sweden. But it is also a great place for both hang- and paragliding. There are 3 maintained launch zones all year-round from beginners from NE to NW. The biggest is called 'the 1000-meter' and is located at 1280 m ASL. There are also possibilities for XC flying, mainly from April until July. In May 2008 two local pilots (Fredrik Lindholm and Pal Hammar)flew 240 km from this site.
The mountain is easy accessed by a tram from January until August. In the other months, you can just walk up the mountain. |

The landing is called Draklanda and is located between the bottom of the Olympia slope and the lake. Beware of the train power lines on the side of the LZ. Height: 375 m ASL |

By flight to Åre/Östersund Airport, then take a train for an hour or fly to Trondheim and catch a train for 3 hrs. |

Åre is a great place - when the weather is good!
Skysport paragliding school is situated next to the landingfield. BBQ area and shop.
Always speak to the locals - they are both friendly and informative! |

Åre is a mountain and must be dealt with carefully. Lenticularis in the sky is a bad sign.
The landing might be difficult in NW winds as the landing itself acts as a thermal trigger (because of the location by the lake). |

Small hill in the center of Asa, 15 km south of Kungsbacka. TO is on the top of the small mountain close to the beach at the camping. Just park at the camping and walk down to the beach and you will see the hill on the right side.
Just walk to the top and you will find a big flat spot to start from. Easy TO and toplanding. |
| Landing : |
Toplanding or there is lots of space to the right or left of the TO. No landning just below the TO so don't scratch too long.
Safest is usually the beach to the right. If the wind is more to S the green spot to the left is just fine. |
| Going there : |
When you get to Asa (Ã…sa) just follow the signs to the camping and park at the beach. You'll see the site from the beach looking west. |

In summer be careful of people at the beach, lots of children so please land with caution. |

Beautiful grassy slope facing towards SW. You can drive up to the launch site by car (unless the military is practicing target shooting - then the gate is closed) |

Get to Ystad in the very south of Sweden and drive approx. 15 km east to the little village of Hammar - look for the gliders up and behind the grassy ridge directly south of the village. Take the small dirt road to the parking. Park only on the right side (west). |
| Comments : |
This is a coastal soaring site. In the summer it works perfectly on seabreeze from SW from 6-9 m/s for 'sport pilots' and up to around 14 m/s for expert pilots.
But attention!! You need good ground handling techniques to fly here.
The soaring ridge is some 4 km long. |

Dont fly in too strong winds! Hammar works best when its SW but also when its SSW or WSW. If it doesn't work, land on the soft beach. But beware of landing in the ocean. There are currents which may drag you out. |

Take the ski lift to the top. Turn right back to the slightly more narrow ski slope. When the wind is right W to SW take off is nice and easy at the crest.

Smallish opening in the trees just south of the ski lift. Slight turbulence behind the trees when wind is hard.

Follow the signs and maps to the 'Tandådalen' ski field. Use the big car park and take the lift to the top, unless you feel like climbing a very steep hill.
